Description

The University of Montana, College of Health is seeking applicants for a Budget Analyst II for its developing Physician Associate (PA) Program. The Budget Analyst plays a significant role in the School of Physician Associate (PA) Studies by providing management of fiscal and budgetary affairs for the department. This position serves as the primary liaison for the PA Program in maintaining positive relationships with all departmental faculty, staff, chair and directors, as well as colleagues across campus in Business Services, Human Resource Services, Office of Sponsored Programs, and the Montana Healthcare Foundation.

Examples of Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversight and processing accounts payable and receivable.
  • Work with the Program Director in preparing and monitoring the departmental budget and other financial reports as requested.
  • May be responsible for supervision of other PA office staff and student workers as needed.
  • Process purchase orders, invoices, reimbursements, and check requests to appropriate personnel.
  • Providing timely and accurate fiscal reports to advise the chair regarding fund balances and trends in various fund types.
  • Advising the chair to maximize use of resources to implement the unit’s annual strategic plan, mission, vision, and goals.
  • Overseeing the reconciliation of purchases and card transactions for cardholders in the unit.
  • Maintaining responsibility for various accounting transactions regarding balancing budgets, transfers between units, and correcting erroneous entries for general, designated, auxiliary, foundation and grant funds.
  • Processing human resource transactions regarding hiring, labor distribution changes, compensation entries as well as processing payroll.
  • Making policy and procedural recommendations to the school chairperson to maximize efficiencies and improve performance.
  • Process compensation requests and stipends for faculty, external lecturers, clinical preceptors, or standardized patients as needed.
  • Collaborate with the Program Director to identify cost-saving measures and recommend efficient resource allocation.
  • Oversee procurement processes.
  • Assist with the preparation, submission, and management of grants for the PA program, working closely with faculty and research teams.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma and three (3) years of previous relevant work experience in finance and accounting or a related field.
  • Presentation and computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office software (e.g., SharePoint, Teams, OneDrive, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and Outlook), as well as the ability to stay current with emerging office technologies.
  • Ability to develop spreadsheets with contemporary software applications and programs.
  • Proficient with online meeting platforms (e.g., Zoom and/or other).
  • Knowledge of correct business practices, correspondence, and typing formats.
  • Ability to perform basic arithmetic, algebra, and statistics (as it pertains to accounting and finance), as well as demonstrate proficiency in data analysis and financial statement analysis.
  • Strong customer service skills, organizational skills, and excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work with others within a highly complex yet integrated academic environment.
  • Able to work efficiently with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Skilled in critical thinking/analysis and able to develop solutions to challenges or complaints.
  • Highly adaptable with capacity to learn new skills.
  • Must maintain confidentiality and act with integrity and sound judgement.
  • Experience supervising others.
  • Ability to read and comprehend regulations, procedures, and policies and apply them to specific situations.
  • The ability to work independently or as a team in a dynamic environment with changing priorities and multiple responsibilities is an asset.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Additional Information

Position Number: 031540

Compensation Title: Budget Analyst II

Work Schedule: Full-time, 1.0 FTE (40 Hours a week), Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, 12 months/year

Probationary Period: Six (6) months minimum
