About Allen Community College
Allen Community College (Allen) was established in 1923, as Iola Junior College under the jurisdiction of the Board of Education. Allen, serving approximately 1,900 students, will continue to meet the needs of its entire service area and be responsive to those needs with new programs and services that can be implemented quickly, effectively, and efficiently. Allen has been an innovator in online education and offers hybrid, hy-Flex, courses and programs on the Iola campus as well as offers concurrent classes in 13 high schools throughout the six-county service area (Allen, Anderson, Woodson, Coffey, Osage, and Wabaunsee counties).
Allen is proud to host a robust residential community of students. In addition to residence halls, Allen has apartment style facilities within walking distance of the College. Allen also hosts a number of athletic programs including volleyball, basketball, baseball, softball, cross country, cheer and dance, track and field, and soccer. In addition, Allen offers a wide range of activities including vocal/instrumental music, fine/graphic arts, theater/film, agriculture, livestock judging, journalism, and Phi Theta Kappa. Allen offers Associate Degrees and Certificates in a variety of program areas. Allen provides access to education without limits of time, place, or distance meeting the needs of a diverse student community. The College, accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC), and recipient of Open Pathways designation, is engaged in a comprehensive strategic planning process as a dynamic roadmap for Allen’s future. This extensive process resulted in the development of Allen’s 2023-2027 strategic plan with strategic goals, measurable objectives, and key performance indicators consistent with college priorities.
Allen County, Kansas is a small, rural county located in southeast Kansas with a population of 12,500. It was founded in 1855 and located within 2 hours of Wichita, KS; Joplin, MO; Kansas City; and Tulsa, OK. Allen County’s network of trails features amazing diversity, including rails-to-trails, paved trails, gravel trails, dirt trails, nature trails, mountain bike trails, and fitness trails. Lehigh-Portland State Park is the newest Kansas State Park located within Iola city limits. The city of Iola is the largest town in Allen County and is located at the US 54 Highway and US 169 Highway junction. Iola is known for the rich community life and deep traditions created by its friendly residents and boasts one of the largest town squares west of the Mississippi. The population is approximately 5,400 in the year 2020. Iola offers the Bowlus Fine Arts Center, multiple public parks with special needs equipment, and beautiful bike and walking trails.
VICE PRESIDENT FOR STUDENT AFFAIRS
RESPONSIBILITIES: The Vice President for Student Affairs at Allen Community College provides strategic vision, leadership, and direction for student services. This role ensures a student-centered environment by developing, implementing, and assessing policies, programs, and initiatives that support recruitment, retention, academic success, and overall student well-being.
QUALIFICATIONS: Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities
• Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, or a related field is required. A Doctorate is preferred.
• A minimum of eight (8) years of progressively responsible experience in higher education, with demonstrated senior-level leadership in student affairs or related areas.
• Proven experience in strategic enrollment management, student support services, and policy development. • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Strong leadership, project management, and strategic planning skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Proficiency in the use of relevant technology and integrated software systems
• Demonstrated ability in strategic planning, budget management, and data-driven decision-making.
• Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and collaborate effectively with diverse teams.
SALARY: $100,000 – 125,000 depending on education and experience.
