Description
Assign duties and supervise all shift personnel in the performance of their duties, to include police officers, Safe Team personnel and parking lot attendants.
Maintain constant radio or telephone availability with the communications center. Present positive public relations. Establish and utilize effective patrol techniques.
Identify violations of University regulations, municipal ordinance violations, or state laws and take appropriate action to remedy the situation, to include advisement, conflict resolutions, referral for University discipline, or arrest. Prepare reports regarding violations.
Plan and conduct follow-up investigations into violations of University regulations, municipal ordinance violations, or state laws, and prepare reports. Testify in criminal court proceedings.
Perform public service duties.
Examples of Duties

- CALEA Accreditation Manager maintains the Department of Public Safety’s accreditation program according to Federal, State of Missouri, and CALEA (Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies) law enforcement standards.
- Performs analytical and administrative work, with an emphasis on planning and coordinating accreditation activities as directed by the Director of Public Safety.
- Perform all of the duties of police patrol sergeant, auxiliary sergeant, or detective sergeant as assigned.

- Work with Public Safety Assistant Directors and the Director to identify department grant needs.
- Locate and apply for grants while working with the Office of Sponsored Programs to coordinate the process.
- Maintain grant programs and requirements such and inventory and reporting on the status of grants.

- Coordinate with 3rd party vendors to maintain technology, hardware, and software within the Department of Public Safety.
- Manage and maintain the Milestone software for UCM’s Campus Camera Network. Work with individual areas on campus to identify areas where new cameras may be needed and then coordinate with the vendor, individual areas, and the Director of Public Safety to plan the project and then implement.
- Mange and maintain the ProPhoenix software to support our dispatch and patrol division.

- Coordinate with the UCM Office of Technology and Department of Public Safety personnel to support, maintain and implement new technologies within the department

- Respond to emergency police and other calls.
- Work special events and overtime as assigned.
Typical Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice Administration or related field.
Experience:
- Three years experience as a police officer, preferably in a college or university environment.
- Five years preferred.

- Ability to physically perform defensive tactic skills (following training, e.g., handgun retention, control & restraint techniques)
- Long periods of time in patrol car
