The Meramec Campus Science Department of St. Louis Community
College is seeking two full-time faculty members in Chemistry, one
of which will be an Organic Chemist. These positions are full-time,
continuing faculty positions to start in Fall 2025. Faculty will
teach lecture and laboratory classes in introductory, general, and
organic chemistry to a diverse group of students in a range of
teaching modalities (face-to-face and hybrid). The successful
candidate will demonstrate the use of varied teaching techniques
that help students develop critical thinking skills and support
student success. The successful candidate will also demonstrate a
commitment to student advising, engagement in departmental
activities, and contributions to the College community. Some
evening instruction may be required.

What you’ll do:

  • Full-time faculty duties and responsibilities normally
    include:
    Formal course contact teaching of 15 credit hours of chemistry
    lecture and lab courses per fall and spring semester;
    Teaching assignments will primarily consist of courses at the
    Meramec campus;
    Teaching assignments in a variety of instructional settings and
    times, including evening and/or weekends, online or off-campus, and
    large group instruction classes as needed. Teaching assignments may
    occur on other STLCC campuses;
    Prepare instructional material and execute instructional activities
    in accordance with course learning objectives;
    Instructors are responsible for instruction, grading,
    record-keeping, and compliance with legal and institutional
    obligations;
    Maintaining the appropriate number of office hours at times of day
    convenient for students;
    Scheduling student conferences to review individual student
    progress;
    Assistance in student academic advisement;
    Participation in the curriculum review process, including the
    evaluation and revision of course objectives and outlines,
    instructional strategies, and systems of evaluation of student
    learning;
    Participation on department, division, campus and college-wide
    committees;
    Attendance at faculty meetings and institutional ceremonies or
    meetings;
    The College reserves the right to assign other normal professional
    responsibilities as may be appropriate;

Education, experience, and other requirements:

A Master’s degree in Chemistry or a Master’s degree in a related
field with at least 18 graduate credit hours in chemistry.

Preferred Qualifications:

Community college teaching experience with graduate courses in
education and chemistry;
Experience with different instructional modalities of chemistry
education (face-to-face, hybrid, and online);
Experience with active and experiential learning;
Knowledge of current laboratory safety procedures;
Experience in maintaining instruments used in teaching
chemistry;
Knowledge of the principles and applications of chemical
instrumentation;
Knowledge and experience in the development and assessment of
student learning outcomes;
Commitment to professional growth including a demonstrated
willingness to improving teaching methodology.
