Job Summary:
Established in 2024, the Howard Vandersea Athletics Fellowship
recognizes former Bowdoin College Head Football Coach Howard
Vandersea and his outstanding contributions to Bowdoin College,
valued mentorship of hundreds of student-athletes, and steadfast
commitment to developing future generations of coaches and
leaders.
The Fellowship is a structured two-year rotational position
intended to showcase the various career pathways available in
college athletics. As part of the Athletic Department’s
administrative team, the Fellow will have a unique, hands-on
opportunity within a highly regarded Division III college athletics
program to:
- Lead administrative projects with the Senior Woman
Administrator, Assistant Athletic Director for Operations, and the
Assistant Athletic Director for Facilities and Event
Management - Assist with analysis of existing data management sources as
well as implementing new ones - Support current programming by partnering with students to
identify and implement new initiatives within the department, with
a particular focus on mental health and nutrition - Play a significant role in the oversight of two student groups
within the athletic department, the Student Athlete Advisory
Committee (BSAAC), and the Athletes of Color Coalition (AoCC) - Work with the Sexuality, Women, and Gender Center (SWAG) and
campus partners to enhance annual NCAA sexual violence prevention
training and hazing education programming for all athletes
In addition, Fellows accepted into the online sports management
masters degree program at the University of Florida for the fall of
2025 will be provided full tuition reimbursement. Other masters
degree programs of interest may be considered for tuition
reimbursement. Applicants should be in the process of submitting

Pay, Benefits, and Perks
- The hiring range for this position is expected to be $46,000 –

Education/Skills Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree required; if currently enrolled in a
bachelor’s degree program, a minimum undergraduate grade point
average of 3.0 (based on a 4.0 scale) or its equivalent in the
undergraduate curriculum is required. - Plan to pursue a Master’s degree (in the United States) in
Sports Management, leading to a career in the sports industry - Possess integrity, curiosity and a growth mindset in all
aspects of the Fellowship - Intermediate proficiency in MS Office required
- Basic proficiency in Google Suite required
- Intermediate proficiency in social media
preferred - Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively within a team and
contribute positively to the team’s operations and working
environment - Organizational Skills: Excellent organizational skills,
including the ability to balance an online Master’s program
requirements and perform at a high level in this position - Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication
skills. - Adaptability: Ability to work in a dynamic environment,
adapting to changes and managing multiple priorities
Experience Requirements and/or Equivalents:
- Former collegiate student-athlete experience highly
preferred - 1 to 3 years of relevant experience preferred
Standard Work Days and Hours:
- The Fellowship is a two-year position starting on July 15, 2025
and running through June 30, 2027. - This is an exempt, full-time position, working 30 hours/52
weeks per year (0.75 FTE) and will flex to accommodate the Fellow’s
Master’s degree online classes. - Evenings and weekends will be required based on home events
schedule and the Fellow’s classes.
