Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

The following are preferred qualifications:

  • Earned Doctorate from a regionally accredited university.
  • Two years of teaching experience as lead instructor.
  • Teaching experience in a community college and demonstrated
    interest in and passion for teaching community college
    students.
  • Familiarity and willingness to employ current pedagogical,
    instructional, and assessment methods in teaching college
    students.
  • Demonstrated experience with utilizing a variety of classroom
    technologies, both inside and outside the classroom.
  • Experience working with students from a diverse
    background.
  • Ability to work well with others.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

Work Hours

Normally scheduled Monday through Friday; may be required to work
different shifts to include evenings and/or weekends. Schedule
subject to change based upon department needs.

Compensation
Salary is commensurate with education and experience.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Brief Description of Duties:

This position will teach at both Longview and Blue River
campuses.

  • Teaching:
    • Deliver effective instruction that reflects a thorough
      understanding of current discipline standards and is engaging,
      relevant, and innovative.
    • Incorporate pedagogical strategies such as active learning,
      authentic and problem-based activities, and other successful
      teaching strategies into classroom instruction.
    • Demonstrate reflective practices that demonstrate an
      understanding of current standards in assessment of student
      learning. This includes active and ongoing participation in
      formative assessments, as well as departmental assessments that
      measure student learning outcomes for continuous improvement.
    • Coordinate and present student vocal performances for a public
      audience.
  • Classroom management:
    • Maintain timely and accurate records of student enrollment,
      attendance, and academic progress.
    • Foster a positive classroom environment that is equity-minded
      and culturally- responsive by presenting course content in a way
      that is inclusive, accessible, and engaging to all learners.
    • Help students develop academic habits for college success.
    • Provide academic assistance and related services to students
      during scheduled office hours.
  • Collegiality:
    • Actively participate collegially in department, campus,
      cross-college, discipline-specific, district, and community service
      activities.
    • Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of diverse
      academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity,
      sexual orientation, and racial and ethnic backgrounds of community
      college students, faculty, and staff.
    • Develop and review curriculum, including assessment of learning
      outcomes.
    • Engage in continual professional development in subject matter
      content or in teaching methodology and technology.
    • Participate in hiring committees for full-time faculty.
    • Participate in shared governance committees, processes, and
      initiatives.
    • Participate in professional activities and service beyond one’s
      primary teaching assignments.
  • Skills:
    • Ability to use in technology for professional productivity and
      classroom instruction, to include teaching in virtual, hybrid, and
      online modalities.
    • Ability to use music-specific technology in course
      instruction.
    • Ability to teach vocal and piano private lessons.
  • Other:
    • Perform other contractual duties as assigned to provide a
      high-quality learning experience for students.
