Instructor for General Chemistry and Forensic Chemistry job with The University of South Carolina

The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry (www.sc.edu/chemistry) in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of South Carolina, Columbia campus, invites applications for a full-time, 9-month professional-track Instructor position, beginning August 16, 2026. This appointment focuses on the teaching of chemistry at introductory levels and is renewable annually, subject to the Dean’s approval, satisfactory performance, departmental needs, and available funding. After an initial three-year appointment, a multi-year contract may be considered.

We seek candidates with a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching in introductory chemistry courses. Applicants must have experience in teaching undergraduate courses (as a graduate teaching assistant or instructor of record) in Chemistry.  The instructor will teach 4 courses per semester (8 courses total per 9-month appointment), or the equivalent in chemistry labs (General Chemistry I and II, Introduction to Forensic Science, and/or chemistry for non-science majors, etc.).
