Position Summary and Overview
The Churchill School & Center, a K-12 school for students with language-based learning disabilities, is seeking a 4th grade co-head teacher for the 2025-2026 school year.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Demonstrate commitment to Churchill’s mission and core values
- Embrace and model Churchill’s commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
- Work collaboratively with cooperating team members, including but not limited to: co-head teacher, related service providers and specialists to plan and implement units of study, lessons, assignments, and projects & activities
- Plan and implement thoughtful lessons and units of study
- Teach using multisensory methodology
- Support students by:
- Scaffolding in-class assignments, tasks and projects
- Developing critical thinking, problem solving skills and tools to become self advocates and productive learners
- Utilizing multimodal methods of teaching
- Assess student work and participation both formally and informally
- Maintain class websites with course descriptions, pictures, etc.
- Initiate and maintain communication with student families
- Supervise students during lunch and recess periods
- Seek improved methods of teaching through professional development opportunities
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have…
- BA or BS Degree (Degree in Elementary Education, Special Education or related field preferred)
- Completed or working towards a MA or MS Degree (Degree in Elementary Education, Literacy/Reading or Special Education or related field preferred)
- Completed or working towards NYS Teacher Certification
- Two or more years of classroom experience building positive and appropriate relationships with young students
- Knowledge of, or willingness to continue higher levels of education to obtain knowledge of effective service strategies and methodologies for working with children with language-based learning disabilities
- Familiarity with Smartboards, Google Drive, and assistive technology
- Interest in professional career development in the field of special education
- Patience, flexibility, good organization skills, and a sense of humor
Compensation
- $63K-$75K commensurate with experience
