Job Description:

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Assist in the daily operations of the Recreation Center and assume responsibility for the development and implementation of intramural sports. Also provide leadership, organization, and supervision of the women’s basketball program.

RECREATIONAL PROGRAMMING DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in planning and executing a comprehensive recreational sports program that includes intramural sports, fitness programming, and special events.
  • Serve as lead administrator for intramural sports programming. This includes leading in planning the intramural sport calendar, staffing for events, evaluation and assessment, and scheduling facility usage.
  • Oversee all intramural student employees including recruitment, training, scheduling, evaluation, and payroll submission.
  • Maintain intramural website.
  • Assist with daily facility operations issues and in the development, implementation, enforcement, and evaluation of facility policies and procedures, risk management plans, and equipment maintenance. Collaborate with Capital Planning and Maintenance as needed.
  • Assist with operational set-ups and technical needs of all events conducted in the Recreation Center as needed.
  • Provide evening and/or weekend supervision as required for recreational programming and special events.
  • Collaborate with various campus offices to support programming.
  • Represent the department at various admissions events and on campus-wide committees as requested.
  • Other duties as requested

HEAD COACHING DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide leadership, organization, and supervision of the women’s basketball program including conducting all practices, team meetings, game preparation, team conduct, individual and team skill development, and coaching.
  • Develop and execute a recruiting plan that effectively recruits academically and athletically qualified student-athletes and maintains an appropriate roster size.
  • Prioritize the academic success and promote the personal development of women’s basketball student-athletes.
  • Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate assistant coaches.
  • Submit proposed practice schedule to Athletic Trainer, communicating regularly about any changes. Coordinate and communicate practice schedules, and any changes, with department staff.
  • Prepare a list of prospective participants and submit them to the Compliance Officer for eligibility review. Review eligibility rules with all participants.
  • Attend all contests and ensure that transportation and meal requirements are scheduled properly. Travel with the team to all away contests or assign members of staff to travel with the team. Drive team vehicles to away contests as required. Secure meal money and forms before away contests. Return all meal forms and unused money to the Athletic Office as soon as possible or prior to the next trip.
  • Confer with the Athletic Trainer regarding the status of injured athletes.
  • Submit recommendations to the Director of Athletics regarding schedule, facilities, support staff, budget, transportation, and equipment during post-season evaluation meetings.
  • Participate in Admissions events and attend all department meetings and functions as requested.
  • Conduct fundraising projects as desired in compliance with all regulations of the department and the Booster Club.
  • Complete all required departmental, conference, and NCAA paperwork in a timely fashion as requested, and develop knowledge of and abide by current NCAA and MASCAC rules and regulations regarding recruiting, eligibility, and sport-specific rules concerning practice and playing seasons.

Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 3-5 years of basketball coaching experience at the high school or collegiate level.
  • Basketball playing experience at the collegiate level.
  • Proven integrity and leadership skills.
  • Strong desire and the ability to recruit academically and athletically prepared student-athletes.
  • Experience with training and supervision of student staff.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively relate to students, faculty, staff, and the general public.
  • Ability to teach, mentor, and demonstrate accountability, respect, sportsmanship, and academic and athletic excellence.
  • Standard work schedule will include afternoon, evening, and weekend hours.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Must be able to satisfactorily pass a check conducted by the Criminal History Systems Board (CORI check), Sexual Offender Information Registry (SORI check), and a background check satisfactory to the university.
  • Ability to perform above duties with or without reasonable accommodation.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Practical experience with comprehensive recreational programming.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field.
  • Master’s Degree in related field.

Required Knowledge:

  • In-depth knowledge of risk management and safety issues related to recreational programming.
  • Knowledge and adherence to NCAA Division III rules and regulations.
  • Current instructor certification in CPR and AED preferred.
  • Knowledge of the game of basketball, practice drills, game planning, and current trends in the sport.

Additional Information:

This is a full-time, benefited, exempt, professional APA position. The annual salary range for this position is $60,000.00 to $65,000.00 commensurate with education and experience.
