Description of Job Duties and Responsibilities
The Spirit Store General Manager is responsible for the overall management and operations of the Fairmont State University Spirit Store. This includes overseeing both the online bookstore service and the physical retail store, ensuring students, faculty, staff, alumni, and fans have access to school-branded gear, textbooks, and essential supplies. Additionally, the manager will coordinate and execute satellite stores at major campus events, athletic competitions, and other key university gatherings.
Retail Operations & Inventory Management
- Oversee the daily operations of both the online and physical Spirit Store.
- Maintain appropriate inventory levels of school-branded merchandise, books, and student necessities.
- Source, purchase, and manage vendor relationships to ensure high-quality merchandise and competitive pricing.
- Implement effective merchandising strategies to maximize sales and enhance the shopping experience.
- Develop and oversee loss prevention strategies.
Customer Service & Engagement
- Provide exceptional customer service by creating a welcoming and engaging retail environment.
- Train and manage store staff, ensuring they provide knowledgeable and friendly assistance to customers.
- Collaborate with university departments, student organizations, and athletic programs to align store offerings with campus needs.
- Gather and analyze customer feedback to improve product selection and service quality.
Financial Management & Sales Growth
- Develop and manage the store’s budget, ensuring financial efficiency and profitability.
- Track and analyze sales data to identify trends and drive revenue growth.
- Establish promotional campaigns and marketing initiatives to increase visibility and sales.
- Manage cash handling procedures, sales reconciliation, and financial reporting.
Satellite Store & Event Management
- Organize and manage pop-up stores at large campus events, including athletics, orientation, and special celebrations.
- Coordinate logistics, staffing, and inventory for satellite locations.
- Work closely with event organizers to ensure seamless integration of retail operations.
Marketing & Branding
- Develop and implement creative marketing strategies, including social media promotions, email campaigns, and in-store events.
- Work closely with university marketing to maintain brand consistency across merchandise and promotional materials.
- Foster relationships with alumni and community partners to increase brand reach.
Minimum Required Education
Bachelor’s degree in business administration, Retail Management, Marketing, or a related field preferred.

Minimum Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in retail management, e-commerce, or a related field.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Experience in inventory management and merchandising.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed for events.
- Strong financial acumen, including budgeting and sales forecasting.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in retail management software, e-commerce platforms, and Microsoft Office Suite.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in collegiate or sports retail environments.
- Familiarity with university bookstore operations.
- Knowledge of Fairmont State University’s culture and community.
