Job Summary:
The Director of Admissions is responsible for leading the implementation of a strategic enrollment plan designed to enroll talented undergraduate and graduate students who will benefit from a Wilberforce University education and meet the University’s enrollment goals. Under administrative direction, The Director of Admissions is responsible for planning, staffing, managing and implementing recruitment and admission programs designed to enroll and retain freshmen and transfer students. All while managing and supervising the overall Admissions Department.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Manage, train, and assist in hiring a growing team of Admissions Counselors. You will oversee making sure your team delivers on their daily, monthly, and quarterly enrollment goals.
- Set benchmarks, track and analyze data to optimize enrollment.
- Create and oversee systems and processes that the Admissions team will use to work with prospective students and their families.
- Ensure that the admission team receives high-quality onboarding training plus the implementation of a robust training that continually grows staff professionally.
- Develops and coordinates new and transfer undergraduate student recruitment, including hiring, training and deploying staff, and budgeting
- Manage data inputted into the information systems management.
- Oversees application processing, admission decisions and notification.
- Responsible for the preparation of daily and weekly reports.
- Develops and implements a comprehensive undergraduate marketing strategy, including advertising, publications, and communication flows.
- Coordinates all campus visit programs.
- Develops professional relationships in local and national organizations focused on new student enrollment and represents the University in public appearances.
- Collaborates with academic and student service departments to impact the successful transition of undergraduate students into the University.
- Assists with the development and implementation of enrollment management plans and policies.
- Conducts annual performance evaluations of all Admissions Office staff.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Experience in admissions, recruitment, sales, or a related field is preferred.
- Willingness and ability to travel extensively, which will include evenings, weekends and overnight stays for extended periods.
- Maintain professional appearance.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Willingness to work in a team environment.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree Required.
- Knowledge of strategic enrollment planning/management strategies, recruitment/admission policies and procedures, budget processes.
- Management/planning skills; interpersonal/human relations skills, supervisory skills.
- Ability to initiate and maintain professional relationships; and ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Demonstrated proficiency in use of Ellucian (BANNER) and its Recruitment/Admissions Modules.
- Demonstrated ability to work with a wide range of people and commitment to diversity.
- Demonstrated ability to solve problems and initiate and implement projects independently efficiently and effectively.
- Skill in effective communication (written and verbal) and public presentations; experience with and sensitivity to diverse populations.
- Ability to travel and work a varied schedule with flexible hours.
- Knowledge of Microsoft environments, including Word, Access, Excel.
- Strong Customer Service and Customer Care Skills.
- Maintain a positive attitude that will promote a healthy cultural climate in Admissions.
