Position Summary

• NMHU Music Program mentor music performance, technology, and production students to graduation ( BFA, BA, AA degrees)
• Our campus is a small but vibrant supporting concerts by Jazz Ensemble, Madrigal Choir, HU Singers, and Mariachi concerts each Fall and Spring semester
• NMHU is an Avid Learning Partner, offering classes in Pro Tools, recording, production, mixing, and mastering
• NMHU Students practice performances each Wednesday noon in convocation events
• Provide piano accompaniment for performance students and a choral ensemble

Duties and Responsibilities

• Teach music courses, including theory, arranging (production), applied piano
• Teach private lessons incl. contemporary and popular styles
• Provide piano accompaniment for students and an ensemble
• Provide mentorship in recording or similar music technology
• Advise students toward degree completion
• Create lesson plans, assignments, and exams
• Participate in creative degree/certificate brainstorming
• Serve on administrative committees that handle curriculum, hiring, and budget decisions
• Participate in social media profiles promoting NMHU’s music program
• Music research options in performance, creative works, as well as publication

Minimum Qualifications

Education
• Earned doctorate in music or related field of study ( ABD considered; completion required by date of appointment)

Experience
• Two or more years teaching in higher education (post secondary)
• Two or more years teaching private lessons
• Experience providing piano accompaniment for performance students and/or ensembles
• Demonstrated knowledge/experience with music industry/technology

Preferred Qualifications

• Minimum (or better) vocal ability for teaching aural skills
• Experience recording recitals/performances as a musician or music producer/director
• Experience teaching, mentoring diverse populations
• Experience with social media promotion of our music program, posting events, recitals, posters, pictures

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Teach a variety of courses, including music theory, composition, performance music, and vocal (and ideally piano accompaniment) music
• Teach private lessons in voice, (and possibly piano) with expertise in contemporary, popular music
• Advise students toward degree completion
• Create lesson plans, assignments, and exams
• Assist in the revision of music technology and performance degrees including certificates, AA, BA, & BFA degree plans
• Serve on administrative committees that handle curriculum, hiring, and budget decisions
• Develop and maintain an active social media for the promotion of our music program, posting events, recitals, comments, posters, pictures, etc.
