Job Description:

The position requires teaching a wide range of courses in exercise and sports science within the major and the General Education Curriculum. Specifically, the new faculty member will oversee our concentration in Strength and Conditioning. The ideal candidate will have experience as a collegiate and/or professional strength and conditioning/performance coach.

Duties & Responsibilities (as Tenure-Track Assistant Professor) :

  • Teaching workload (24 semester hours of credit of instruction per school year. There will be a reduction in hours of credit instruction based on role as Head Performance Coach.
  • Work under the head strength and conditioning coach: as lead coach for a set number of teams to be determined; assist the head strength and conditioning coach with assessment, programming and coaching.
  • Strength and conditioning program coordinator: select, train, supervise and evaluate exercise and sports science students as they complete practicum requirements that can range from observation to coaching.
  • Supervise internships.
  • Teach a broad range of courses in strength training and conditioning and other classes in the major and General Education Curriculum.
  • Provide student assistance including academic advising.
  • Participate in curriculum review and development, program reviews and student outcomes assessment at the university and department level.
  • Attend university functions, including commencement; convocation; and faculty committee and departmental meetings.
  • Participation in scheduled orientation and registration programs.
  • Continuing scholarship and professional activities, which include contribution to the content of the discipline, participation in or contribution to professional organizations and societies, professional service, public service and contributions to the professional growth and development of the university community.
  • May have opportunities to teach summer, winter term, online, and undergraduate courses.

Duties & Responsibilities (as Head Performance Coach) :

  • The Head Performance Coach works with the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach to serve 17 athletic teams. The head performance coach will receive to-be-determined teaching course releases per semester to train athletic teams (~2-5 teams) and work with the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach and Athletics.
  • Design and implement effective year-round sport-specific strength training and conditioning programs for the athletes.
  • Conduct fitness and performance testing for the athletes.
  • Review results with student-athletes and coaches.
  • Collaborate with sports medicine staff in maintaining athlete health.
  • Assist with maintenance of equipment and make recommendations for repairs and/or replacements as needed.
  • Complete annual report for Athletics.
  • Research that involves engaging and collaborating with students and evidence of interest an d success in mentoring underrepresented minority students is desired.

Requirements:

Qualifications:

  • Requires earned doctorate in Exercise Science or related discipline.
  • National Strength and Conditioning Association certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist.
  • Experience as a collegiate and/or professional strength and conditioning coach or similar position.
  • Ability to integrate appropriate technology and software in teaching.
  • Commitment to excellence in teaching, demonstrated teaching experience appropriate to the level of appointment.
  • Evidence of scholarly/creative activity.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse university and campus community, including the student body.
  • Must be able to satisfactorily pass a check conducted by the Criminal History Systems Board (CORI) as well as a completed background check satisfactory to the university.
  • Ability to perform all duties with or without reasonable accommodations.

Additional Information:

Full-time, Tenure Track, 9 month benefited position, beginning September 1, 2025.

Salary commensurate with qualifications, and experience and in accordance with the MSCA Bargaining Agreement.
